Shillong, Jul 12: The inauguration of two border haats (markets) has been postponed for the second time as no confirmation from both the Centre and the Bangladesh government has been received.
The Meghalaya government had made all arrangements to inaugurate the border haats at Lalapani-Dangar in East Khasi Hills on July six and the other at Kalaichar, West Garo Hills on July 4, official sources said today.
''Now the fixing of fresh date for inauguration of the border haats would all depend on the confirmation from both the India and the Bangladesh government,'' sources said.
Sources also said the reason for not inaugurating border haat at Lalapani-Dangar might be due to swelling river across the border which prevent people from Bangladesh to reach the haat.
However, there was no such problem with the border haat at Kalaichar, sources, said.
The border haat at Lalpani-Dangar along the Meghalaya-Bangladesh border was supposed to be inaugurated on June 15 last and Haat Management Committee (HMC) had made all arrangement for the inauguration, sources added.
