BJP Won the State Assembly Elections 2012 in Gujarat
Assembly election results declared on December 20 show that Narendra Modi-led BJP government in Gujarat is set to return to power for the third consecutive term to get 115 Seats.
Modi scores hat-trick:
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi led the BJP to victory for a record third time. The 62-year-old saffron strongman, a favourite of big industry and city voters, led his party to a tally of 115 seats in the 182-seat assembly, just a couple short of its 2007 tally and considered a significant achievement in the face of a more organised opposition and rebellion within his own ranks.
GPP fails in its ambitions:
Another Modi rival and former Gujarat chief minister Keshubhai Patel, who had launched his Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) months ahead of the elections, to dent the prospects of the Gujarat Chief Minister, did not succeed in making any mark, as his party merely managed to just open its account.
GPP president Keshubhai Patel scored a facile victory in Visavadar in Saurashtra defeating BJP's Kanubhai Bhalala by over 42,000 votes.
GPP failed to put up a challenge to Modi and BJP even in the Saurashtra-Kutch belt where his Leuva Patel community holds sway.
